February 7, 2022Protech-Oxyplast introduces its robust Hi-Life Premium Primer range to the market. The series of high-end primers renews and continues to build on the old faithful, taking into account current market trends and needs.
Money. We like to invest it wisely. Therefore wherever possible, some already high-quality but budget-friendly primer systems will easily win the race in price negotiations. If the customer knows what they are looking for however a higher rated system should definitely be put on the table. Experience proves that applying more expensive but high quality products often pay off in the long run.
It is wise to carefully investigate which powder coating system will suit you best. Tests have effectively shown that substrate “A” can benefit from primer “X” while another substrate “B” will demonstrate better results with primer “Z”.
The performance of a primer and in its whole the powder coating system is tested on the basis of certain prescribed test standards and methods of (inter)national quality authorities.
All primers from Protech-Oxyplast Hi-Life Series were evaluated using the following tests:
• Cross-adhesion test (ISO 2409)
• Wet adhesion test – Cook test (in accordance with Qualicoat stipulations)
• Salt spray test (2000 hours) (ISO 9227 / ASTM B-117)
• Condensation or moisture test (ISO 6270-2)
• Cyclic corrosion test (ISO 12944-6 / ISO 20340)
Together with a well-chosen powder coating system; the pre-treatment of the substrate is equally important as it is the first basis for maximal substrate protection. It goes without saying that a sturdy house is not made of sand. Even the best paint will not adhere to a poorly prepared surface. Depending on the quality and type of metal, various types of cleaning, chemical conversion and / or mechanical treatment methods are possible.
Which primers does the Hi-Life Premium Primer range consist of?
1. OXYPRIM – EF33
OXYPRIM EF33 has long been the standard modified epoxy primer of Protech-Oxyplast. This primer is easy to apply and gets its full properties by baking it “regular” (10′-180 ° C). The OXYPRIM primer combines a smooth and sleek appearance with optimal moistening, low layer thickness build-up and strong adhesion with the applied topcoat.
OXYPRIM is, due to its degassing properties, extremely suitable for coating porous surfaces such as cast iron and aluminum, hot-dip galvanized and scraped / metallized steel.
This duplex system offers very good corrosion protection for architectural and industrial applications. OXYPRIM is budget-friendly.
2. GREENPRIM LB – EF36
GREENPRIM LB EF36 is an energy efficient, degassing, modified epoxy primer and therefore carries the OXYPLAST Green Label. GREENPRIM LB is also an old acquaintance in our range.
This primer has been developed as the basis for a two-layer low bake paint system. This primer can be baked out regularly or quickly. GREENPRIM LB is very oven stable and can withstand strong overbaking without intercoat detachment (up to 30 minutes @ 180˚C). Higher layer thicknesses and longer baking times are possible without loss of properties.
This primer has been specially developed for industrial applications, (hot) galvanized steel and porous substrates and has an excellent edge coverage. This system is QUALISTEELCOAT certified and meets all requirements for a C5 corrosion environment (MS2 and HD2). In addition, the GREENPRIM LB is an economical, budget-friendly product.
3. ULTRAPRIM – EF17
ULTRAPRIM EF17, as the name suggests, is the ultimate high-end primer product.
ULTRAPRIM is a zinc-free, pure epoxy coating with superior corrosion protection and is therefore an excellent product for all kinds of metal in the most challenging conditions.
This primer is the champion in edge protection and is ideal for coating perforated, laser cut, sharp-edged substrates, etc.
ULTRAPRIM can be baked in a wide temperature range and therefore has excellent over-baking stability and intercoat adhesion in all types of ovens.
4. DRYPRIM – EF26
DRYPRIM EF26 is a primer that excels in simplicity. Thanks to powder-in-powder technology, DRYPRIM offers the benefits of a two-layer coating system, but only needs one stoving cycle to unleash its full potential.
After the application of the two layers of (dry) powder, both powder layers are baked together in the same stoving cycle, which eliminates the step of intermediate priming of the primer. The major advantage of this two-in-one system is that it can be applied with standard spray equipment.
DRYPRIM excels in intercoat adhesion, superior corrosion protection and edge coverage. Due to its energy reduction this system fits perfectly into our Green Label program.
DRYPRIM gives the best results with the PE40 FE low-bake, degassing topcoat. However other topcoats can be tested and approved by Protech-Oxyplast upon request.
5. ZINCOPRIM
ZINCOPRIM is our well-known zinc-containing primer. Zinc still gives this primer an extra dimension due to its cathodic properties and its densifying function. ZINCOPRIM can be supplied in an economical version as well as with a high zinc content. An energy-friendly or low-stoving variant is also available.
The anti-corrosion properties on well-blasted steel are very high in all versions.
6. MULTIPRIM
MULTIPRIM is a carefully selected multilayer system which due to its unique construction and layer thickness is a very good alternative for protecting blasted steel. Good chemical pretreatment can lift the entire system to an even higher level of anti-corrosion.
This system offers an alternative to CX or offshore wet paint treatments. Tests for this are currently in progress.
MULTIPRIM is the solution for ultimate protection against edge or edge corrosion.
Note:
Many of the primers in the Protech-Oxyplast range can be applied according to the green cure principle, meaning that a partial cure (50%) suffices. This green cure has no negative consequences for the corrosion protection of the powder coating system, as the cross-linking is completed when the final layer gets cured.
