OXYPLAST EF26 is a reactive thermosetting epoxy powder coating primer that can be applied on several type of metal substrates such as aluminium, steel or galvanised steel. This primer is especially designed to allow a “dry on dry” application of primer and topcoat with a single cure.
• Density (g/cm³): (DIN 55990/3) 1.60 ± 0.05
• Particle size distribution: Suitable for electrostatic application
• Storage: Dry, max. 20 °C: at least 6 months
• Application* With corona or tribo gun / Film thickness: 40-60 µm
• Curing schedule (of the primer):
Minimum 10 min. at 160 °C (metal temperature) The final curing window is depending on the reactivity of the topcoat and its advised curing schedule, the minimum curing window for the 2-coat system is 10 min. at 160°C. and maximum 15 min. at 200°C.
*See below for more information on the application of primer and topcoat
When applying the “dry on dry” system using OXYPLAST EF26 primer, the following points are advised:
• Make sure the parts are clean and free of dust.
• A proper grounding of the parts is very important. Use fresh hooks.
• Spray the OXYPLAST EF26 primer in a gentle application. Do not force the powder on the parts and prevent high film build. A layer thickness of 40-60 um is advised. Higher film builds can cause defects. The primer is designed to give excellent edge protection at low film build.
• Make sure the application of the topcoat and primer are separated to prevent cross contamination.
• The topcoat is sprayed using “overcoat” settings: reduced voltage and current. Do not force the powder on the primed parts.
• A high film build of the topcoat is possible and might be advised to obtain the required total layer thickness and corrosion protection.
• Make sure the application of the topcoat and primer are separated to prevent cross contamination.
• Cure the 2-coat system using the topcoat specification. A minimum curing schedule of 10 min. at 160°C (substrate temperature) is advised.
• OXYPLAST EF26 can be top coated with virtually any regular smooth topcoat. Special effect coatings like textured or wrinkled finishes are not advised.
• It is advised to properly test the “dry on dry” application with OXYPLAST EF26. A change in substrate, part design and topcoat may require a different application.
